You wait and wait and wait for summer in New England so when it finally arrives, I get a bit manic. Do I have enough planned? Are we going to max it out. We all know by the time schools starts, it is still warm but if you have kids, summer if pretty much over. Kids activities kick in and that's it. So we all pretty much have 8-9 weeks total. Not much. How will you use it? I like a no-regrets, squeeze out every drop kind've summer. So to make this happen, a little planning anxiety is in order to get it all right. To make it in even more tricky, I also can't be too busy and it can't be too hectic. My body needs down time, my adrenals cannot go go go too much. I should also mention, one of my Lyme journey silver linings, is that I learned that living in a slow mode and being calm and deliberate and in moment can be just as rewarding and fulfilling as a crazy, hectic, do-it-all type lifestyle. This means that just sitting in sun in the back yard, watching the insects fly around, drinking ice tea, and reading a book can be just as rewarding as going to the beach, seeing a summer concert or going whale watching.
Here is my summer to-do list so far:
A week in martha's vineyard - this is a annual tradition in my family
A weekend on Cape Cod. And trying to get to the outdoor movie theatre
Swimming in the pool as much as possible
Improving my gardening skills - this is a new and growing interest of mine.
Taking the dog for long walks, and exploring new areas to do so
Going for ice cream with the kids (sorbet for me ;) ).
Picking strawberries
Fitting a summer outdoor concert in.
Lots of family mini golf.
Reading books on my front porch
Ice teas every day.
Going whale watching. We have not done this in twenty years!
Going to the beach. My goal is to get to the beach once a week. I should say I always set this goal and rarely meet it. I will try harder this year.
I will actually wear all my summer dresses this year instead of wearing workout clothes and swim cover ups.
Seeing the new Twister movie with my kids
Watching the Olumpics - yay!
I would really love to float down a river in a tube - otherwise called tubing. We'll see!
Eating outside as much as possible
Happy summer all. xoxo
